GOP Senator Demands Biden Admin Address Terror Watchlist Border Encounters: ‘There Is An Invasion’

via ABC

Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., is introducing legislation that would require the federal government to report details about encounters with individuals on the terror watchlist at the southern border.

The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, would require monthly reports on the number of encounters, including information on where they occurred, reasons for being on the watchlist, ties to terrorist organizations, national origin, previous criminal convictions, and more.

The legislation comes as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics show a record number of people encountered at the southern border.

Marshall and Cornyn argue that the Biden administration’s open border agenda poses a national security risk.

CBP has caught hundreds of individuals on the terror watchlist trying to cross the border since President Biden took office.

However, CBP states that encounters with watchlisted individuals at the border are uncommon.

Republicans have expressed concerns about the border crisis, particularly in light of attacks on Israel by Hamas.

CBP has not seen any indication of Hamas-directed foreign fighters attempting to enter the U.S. via the southern border.

“There is an invasion at our southern border. Every day that the Biden administration continues their open border agenda, Americans’ national security is at risk,” Marshall said in a statement.

“Month after month, we have seen historic numbers of migrants on the FBI’s terror watchlist infiltrating our country’s border. The threat the individuals on this list pose to Americans’ safety is too great for us to do nothing.”

“Since President Biden took office, Border Patrol has caught hundreds of individuals on the terrorist watchlist trying to cross the southern border, and we don’t know how many more have made it into the country undetected,” Cornyn said.

“This bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to report every individual on the terrorist watchlist encountered at the border to Congress so that we can hold the Biden administration accountable.”

“Encounters of watchlisted individuals at our borders are very uncommon, underscoring the critical work CBP Agents and Officers carry out every day on the front lines,” the agency states on its website.

“DHS works tirelessly to secure our borders through a combination of highly trained personnel, ground and aerial monitoring systems, and robust intelligence and information sharing networks.”

“It is the policy of CBP to neither confirm nor speak to potentially improperly disclosed information or internal documents marked as law enforcement sensitive or for official use only,” a CBP spokesperson said.

“In general, CBP provides frontline personnel a wide range of context for situational awareness in order to ensure they remain vigilant in fulfillment of our homeland and border security missions. Situational awareness briefs are not threat assessments.”
