U.S. taxpayer money was used to conduct experiments on coronaviruses from the Wuhan lab in China, which is believed to be the source of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), led by Dr. Anthony Fauci, infected Egyptian fruit bats with a SARS-like virus called WIV1 in 2018.
The research found that the virus did not cause a robust infection.

The discovery highlights the deepening connections between the US government and the Wuhan lab, as well as the funding of dangerous virus research globally.
The White Coat Waste Project is requesting more information about the experiment, and similar research on potentially pandemic-causing viruses has been ongoing worldwide.
